Maria McKee began her career as the charismatic front woman for the critically lauded proto alternative country band LONE JUSTICE. As a solo artist she has made albums that run the gamut from art rock to folk to raw blue eyed soul. Her first self titled solo effort, is considered a minor classic (listed in Mojo Magazine's greatest albums of all time) and the rollicking YOU GOTTA SIN TO GET SAVED (produced by George Drakoulias) is a benchmark of "Americana" alternative music culture. Mckee fan Quentin Tarantino hand picked a demo version of her song IF LOVE IS A RED DRESS, HANG ME IN RAGS for the soundtrack of PULP FICTION.
She has collaborated musically with BOB DYLAN, U2, ROBBIE ROBERTSON, TOM PETTY, RICHARD THOMPSON, SHANE MCGOWAN, STEVE EARLE and THE JAYHAWKS. She recently performed a Brecht/Weill composition at a RED benefit at Carnegie Hall. She will be performing SHOW ME HEAVEN from the soundtrack of the film DAYS OF THUNDER at an upcoming malaria benefit at the Royal Albert Hall in Septemeber, MUSIC AT THE MOVIES. The song was a number one hit in more than a dozen countries worldwide. She has performed in videos directed by MARY LAMBERT, JULIEN TEMPLE and MARTIN SCORCESE.
